Welcome incoming and returning Aggies to La Raza Pre-Law Student Association!
This is the Political Chair speaking! My name is Brenda Damian (she/her/ella) and I’m a fourth-year undergraduate student double-majoring in Psychology and Sociology with an emphasis in Law and Society. It is my pleasure to be La Raza Pre-Law Student Association’s journal editor for this academic year. Hope you all had a great Week 1!
Given that this is our very first journal entry, we will not analyze a current political movement, but rather set the foundation and expectations of what these journal entries will encompass. First and foremost, abiding by the UC Davis Principle of Community is immensely important in order to uphold a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community, regardless if engaging virtual or in-person. With that being
said, our goal with these journal entries is to help break down current socio-political movements and offer a space for reflection as well as an opportunity to further one’s knowledge. As a student association focused on supporting our Latine students on-campus, our journal entries will cover events/movements that affect the Latine community as a whole. These journals intend to be educational, therefore, I will do my best to offer several perspectives and maintain a neutral stance. Moreover, these journals will be exploring several topics, some which may contain sensitive content that can be triggering for some. Please be advised that the intent for these journals is to serve as an aid for expanding our knowledge and does not weigh in towards creating more division and hate.
In all, we truly hope that you find these journal entries helpful in some way. Sending you all positive energy and wishing you all good luck in Week 2! Stay safe and take care! Political Chair, out!
